Since last November, the team behind Familiar Strangers had been reaching out to foreign workers through individuals and organisations who interact with them on a regular basis. The team also headed to the streets every weekend to collect stories with the intention to amplify these under-represented voices.
The exhibition will also feature photo works of migrant workers to present an alternative view of Singapore through the perspectives of its transient residents. These photos were taken during the 'Photography as a Voice' Workshop, which explores a different form of storytelling through visual narratives.
The 'Familiar Strangers Exhibition: Stories of Migrant Workers Re-presented' is a culmination of efforts to empower migrant workers, and to bridge the gap between these workers and Singaporeans. The exhibition also serves to engage Singaporeans to reflect on migrant issues, integration and social spaces.
