Nothing can upset me today!

Work, kids, shopping, cooking, friends...stress is surrounding us. But much of what we do in these fast-paced and constantly changing times to relieve our stress doesn’t seem to work as well as it once did anymore.

What most of us do to release stress and switch off our minds is eat, drink, go out. ..But how can we achieve real relaxation?

I recently joined a few classes of yoga in a very interesting studio at Bukit Timah Road. I tried Hatha & Nidra yoga. At Hatha yoga you do a slow-paced stretching with simple breathing exercises and seated meditation. Your tutor will guide you throughout the whole class, will keep your mood positive and will push you to your limits. You will stretch your whole body and mostly parts of muscles in your back and belly you didn't even know you had! These muscles are usually very weakened from sitting down most of the time during the day. They are very important for keeping our spine together and making it straight.

Another class, Nidra yoga, was one of my best experiences so far. And I am not exaggerating! By sitting or lying down, breathing, perceiving different parts of your body, you will relax and switch off your mind like never before. You will get to the stage just before your sleep. That stage is just so enjoyable. And you will also feel the way I felt after the class: "Nothing can upset me today." I slept like a baby that night and really dismissed all my thoughts. Even my sleeping habits are getting much better since!

The best? These particular yoga lessons were organised by ‘Over the Rainbow Singapore’, a non profit organisation that cares about mental wellness and aims to empower youths with practical wellness strategies to help them reconnect with the core of their being, follow their heart, pursue their dreams and fulfill their higher purpose in life.

So, have you tried yoga yet? :)
