PALS Assistant - Childrens Cancer Foundation

The role of a PALS Assistant is to supervise children during lunch hour at PALS (Place for Academic Learning and Support).

Roles of a PALS Assistant 
• Assist with purchase of lunch for children
• Supervised play with children
• Helping with the cleaning of the lunch area
• Cleaning and sanitising toys after play

Requirements of a PALS Assistant 
• 18 years old and above
• Compulsory vaccination against mumps, measles, rubella, pertussis and chicken pox (volunteers with history of chicken pox would need to go for a blood test).

Commitment 
• Minimum of 2 hours per week for a minimum period of six months
• Able to volunteer between 12.00pm to 2.00pm, Monday to Friday

Annual Events Volunteer - Childrens Cancer Foundation

The aim of annual events (e.g. Children's Camp, Family Day, Children's Day, Annual Family Retreat) is to strengthen the emotional well-being and enhance the social interactive skills of children with cancer and promote family togetherness. 

Requirements of an Event Volunteer 
Either be part of the Planning Committee of an event, where you will be required to brainstorm on programme ideas, plan and implement the detailed activities and effectively, with the supervision of the CCF staff in charge of the event and ensuring that CCF's objectives for the particular event are met; 

Or participate on the day of the event itself (e.g. as a Group Leader, Befriender, etc) where you will be required to attend a volunteers' briefing prior to the day of the event. 

• 18 years old and above
• Able to handle oneself in a mature and professional manner
• Enjoy conducting activities for children/family

Commitment 
For Planning Committees, able to commit for the entire period of the event of at least three to six months.
For on the day volunteers, able to attend the briefing and on day of event.

Play Personnel - Children's Cancer Foundation

Organisation: Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF)
Time Commitment: Various shifts
Place: CCF@KKH or CCF@NUH

CCF helps children who are newly diagnosed with cancer and undergoing active treatment with their hospital experience. We offer emotional, financial and social support, with a focus on therapeutic play for the children and support activities for their caregivers. Our social workers and counsellors are sited in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and the National University Hospital (NUH) to work alongside our medical partners in the paediatric oncology wards.

The aim of this Play Personnel programme is to provide an avenue for a child to have fun even in hospital, a place they associate with pain and isolation.

Role:
  • Engage children with cancer in structured play activities at the hospital ward, outpatient clinic and CCF's Family Resource Centres at NUH/KKH
  • Help sterilise toys, prepare art & craft activities and/or run group activities

Pre-requisites:
  • 18 years old and above
  • Patient, enjoy interacting and playing with children
  • Able to handle oneself in a mature and professional manner
  • Sense of responsibility and punctuality
  • Compulsory vaccination against mumbs, measles, rubella and chicken pox (or has a history of chicken pox)

Time commitment:
1) Play Personnel at KKH
Morning Session: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Afternoon Session: 2.00pm to 5.30pm

2) Play Personnel at NUH
Morning Session: 10.00am to 12.30pm
Afternoon Session: 2.00pm to 5.00pm
